Please help Me!!!

I am a mom of a 15 year old boy who has a greatinterest and talent for singing. HIs dad was in a band in Dallas for years and thats what my son wants, unfortunatly all my contacts were with his dad and in Dallas. I take him to Karaoke bar as much as possible, but most clubs wont let him in. Also he wants to start aband or join a band but we cant find anyone out there his age. I dont know what my next steps are to help him. I feel like if he could jam with some other band members it might be great for him. I am really just a parent trying to help point my son in the right direction of his dreams but dont know where to start. If anyone has any info to hellp me it would be greatly appreciated. His dad should be guiding him with this but just seems like hes not interested, unfortunatly. So I am now at the mercy of anyone who can help, which is why I signed up here. Please help any sugestions would be appreciated. Also I know he has a talent but not being in a band myself am not sure where being a good singer ends and being a great musician begins. He sings all the time and is interested in learning guitar, he sings in advanced high school choir and competes in UIL's with great scores( though I also know that is different from rock music which is his love..Thanks for any comments..

I feel your pain sweetie. My son has a similar problem And so he moved to Austin to persue his music. He is 25. Have you tried the classifieds on Houstonbands.net. I have gotten pretty good success with that avenue. Also believe it or not. Church groups can help with that as well. Try these things first and let me know. I'll try something else later after you start there.

We have a group that is focused on youth musicians.

We are still in the beginning stages, but we do have a venue in Alief that is "youth friendly." (See Flyer in "Venues" discussion)

As more youth join us, we will be able to give them exclusive shows. Until then, they are welcome to sing with our current musicians and bands.
